Jim Grant joined Gaia Herbs as Regulatory Compliance Officer in 1999. In the years since, he has managed and maintained full compliance in all regulatory areas, including FDA, OSHA, USDA (Organic Standard), EPA, and ATF. In June 2007, groundbreaking legislation put the dietary supplement industry under a new set of “Good Manufacturing Practices,” moving Gaia Herbs from Food to Dietary Supplement standards. Jim helped implement the auditing and traceability practices that aided Gaia in complying with the new FDA requirement. Gaia Herbs is audited annually by the USDA and has undergone several independent distributor customer audits, passing all with high accolades. Jim is the co-chair of the Quality Assurance team working to meet newly published FDA regulations (21 CFR Part 111), effective for Gaia Herbs as of June 2009, and has led and assisted with the continuing training and education of employees to allow Gaia to remain at the forefront of compliance. Having been in the manufacturing industry for more than 30 years, Jim commands extensive knowledge of working plants as a result of the Quality, Technical, and Plant Manager positions he has held. He has his master’s degree in chemistry, is ISO trained in system implementation and auditing by North Carolina State University, and is a Certified Quality Auditor by ASQ. He is also certified as a Six Sigma Black Belt. His avocational interests include hiking, golf, travel, and church activities.
