Sabino has worked at the Gaia Farm for 14 years, which makes him our veteran crewmember, as well as the Assistant Farm Crew Manager. His very important role on the farm is to cultivate the fields for new plantings. He’s been driving a tractor since he was 20, now he’s 58, and the most experienced at disking and adding organic amendments to enrich the soil for new crops. He began his farming career in El Refugio, Mexico growing hot peppers, corn, and tomatoes. Then to Austin, Texas growing ornamental flowers and tropical plants for big box stores such as Wal-Mart and Home Depot, as well as in the cotton and soybean fields. He much prefers the beautiful Gaia Farm, with its diversity of tasks, plants with a purpose and lack of pesticides.
Sabino relocated to the United States in the 1970s and enjoys a growing family including a daughter, Dulce that also works at Gaia Herbs. In his free time he visits with his eight grandchildren (soon to be nine, Dulce is expecting!), reads newspapers, his bible and listens to music. Sabino’s experience and loyalty is invaluable to the success of Gaia and we’re happy to have him in the family.
