From Soil to Supplement
Step 1
It all begins with the soil
We believe healthy plants start in healthy soil. To obtain maximum potency from an herb, we plant seeds in micronutrient dense soil sustained by regenerative agricultural practices.
Step 2
Nurture & observe each plant
We allow our herbs to flourish until the right moment to harvest to ensure the purity and potency of each plant. We conduct pre-harvest testing in our on-site laboratory to ensure each ingredient is harvested at peak potency.
Step 3
Extract the whole-plant
Every herb is carefully extracted, without harsh solvents or chemicals, to preserve its beneficial properties. The result is clean, safe, efficacious supplements.
Step 4
Test for purity & potency
Each product is tested for pesticides, microbes, and heavy metals in our on-site ISO-Certified laboratory. When we’re confident each batch is made to a Gaia Herbs standard, they are bottled in our on-site manufacturing facility & sent to you.
Using the whole plant the way Nature intended
Whole Plant Extraction
Ensuring the quality and consistency of our products is crucial, which is why we exceed industry standards. Our full-spectrum processing method is designed to capture the complete benefits of the whole plant, not just one part of it.
We start by testing the plants while they’re still growing to make sure they’re at their peak potency. Sometimes this means processing the whole plant all at once, and sometimes this means harvesting different parts of the plant when their compounds are most potent.
An example of this is our Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea) crop. Years of testing at the Gaia Herbs Farm have revealed the flower, leaves, and root all reach peak potency at different parts of the growing season. Our echinacea tops are harvested in the early Summer, seed heads in late Summer, and root in the Fall. This ensures we’re getting the most out of each harvest to create the finest herbal supplements on earth.
Through listening to the ancient wisdom of Nature, and applying the rigors of modern science, we craft high potency, premium quality herbal supplements.
No Harsh Solvents
We believe that if individuals are seeking wellness through the use of supplements, it is only right for us to use non-toxic solvents that will neither harm those taking our products nor the delicate chemical profile of the plants.
Our practice of using only safe solvents for extraction also aligns with our mission to lessen our carbon footprint in all our operations.
We recycle our ethanol, creating a closed-loop system in our manufacturing practices, thus ensuring we continue to do no harm to the planet, and the plants and people that inhabit it.
Full-Spectrum Processing
Because of the natural variability in herbal raw material, standardization is an important and necessary step in herbal processing.
However, the manufacturing process at Gaia Herbs goes far beyond standardization. At Gaia Herbs, herbal processing involves more than just producing an extract to a certain percentage or weight of one phytochemical.
Gaia’s method is Full-Spectrum Processing, which uses standardization as a method to regulate the process, while at the same time taking into consideration the integrity of the herb material and its full phytochemical expression.
Final Potency Analysis
After concentration, we carry out a final HPLC analysis to ensure the extract is concentrated to the correct activity levels.
As an example, our Turmeric Supreme line contains both whole-plant and standardized extracts, which illustrates our validated full-spectrum processing approach.
In addition to curcumins, the product contains other essential constituents, such as turmerones, which — while perhaps not as well-known as curcumins — have their own targeted uses.
Standardization is often oversimplified, focusing on the basic normalizing or concentration of a group of constituents in a plant.
We encourage consumers to investigate the overall manufacturing process and supply chain analysis of a company as opposed to solely analyzing the individual ingredients.
Ethical Sourcing for Global Good
We believe in sourcing the herbs from where they grow best to ensure they are potent and true to the nature of the ingredient. What we don’t grow at the Gaia Herbs Farm, we source from farmers and wildcrafters around the world who maintain our same rigorous standards.
Our partners share our beliefs of ethical and responsible business practices, fair wages and treatment of employees, and respect for and regeneration of the earth. We pay premium prices for high-quality ingredients from partners who share our values, and specifically seek out partners certified ethically traded, ROC, FairWild, and Fair for Life.
