    WHAT IS IT?

    Lemon, and other citrus fruits are common in the tropics worldwide. Lemon is believed to be native throughout the monsoon regions of Asia, and to have been introduced to the tropics of the Mediterranean and the Americas. Lemons found their way to Italy by 200 AD, and are thought to have been cultivated in Egypt and Iraq by 700 AD. They belong to the Rutaceae family, along with other medicinal plants Buchu (Agasthoma betulina), Rue (Ruta graveolans), and Prickly Ash (Zanthoxylum spp.). They are considered an evergreen tree that can grow up to 20 feet tall, and if the weather allows will continue to grow and fruit all year long.

    WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

    Lemons hold a special place in many kitchens as a unique source of tart flavor as well as acid. Its acidity makes it useful in food preparation and preservation. Lemon juice’s acidic nature is able to prevent microbial growth, thanks to its phenolic acid compounds including gallic acid, ferulic acid, and caffeic acid. It contains many flavonoids, which act as antioxidants to help to prevent spoilage and rotting when used in foods. Energetically, Lemon is thought to be cooling. During the hot months of the summer, lemonade is used to cool the body and offer hydration, as similarly, lemon and honey in hot water is used to cool a fever and sore throat. Lemons are high in d-limonene, which has been shown to be protective to the gastrointestinal system and tissues, a part of the body that deals with heat from stomach acid and ‘digestive fire’.

    Organic Honey, Organic Herbal Extract Blend: (Organic Honey, Organic Plantain leaf, Organic Elecampane (Inula helenium) root, Organic Mullein leaf and flower extract, Organic Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) aerial parts extract, Essential Oil Blend: Organic Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) leaf essential oil, Organic Anise fruit essential oil, Organic Lemon (Citrus x limon) peel essential oil), water, and organic lemon fruit juice concentrate (to preserve freshness).

  • Suggested Use

    For optimal results

    Ages 12 and up: 1 teaspoon, 3 times daily
    Ages 6-11: 1/2 teaspoon, up to 4 times daily

    Take seasonally as needed. Suitable for long term use.

    Not for use by children under the age of 6.
    Children under the age of 6 may use GaiaKids Bronchial Wellness Syrup.

    Shake well before use. Refrigeration is not required because this product contains honey; keep tightly sealed in a cool, dry place. Not for use during pregnancy or lactation. If you have a medical condition or take medications, please consult with your healthcare practitioner before use. Store away from children. Do not use if safety-seal over cap is broken or missing.

Your Questions, Answered

Are your products Organic?

Gaia Herbs purchases Certified Organic ingredients when possible. If not Certified Organic, they are Ecologically Harvested. Ecologically Harvested herbs include herbs that are harvested in their natural habitat, (i.e., wild harvested) according to specific guidelines for harvesting these herbs (i.e., away from roads and industry, as well as guidelines to avoid overharvesting).

All Ecologically Harvested herbs must pass pesticide, heavy metals, and microbial testing prior to being used in our products.

Do you test for pesticides?

Yes. Gaia tests for purity using an analytical method called Gas Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry, or GC-MSMS. This testing is used in our extensive pesticide testing program when testing our raw herbs.

What is your policy on GMOs?

Gaia Herbs is committed to using and supporting only non-GMO materials. Gaia does not purchase GMO herbs and/or ingredients. We do a purchasing review to ensure we eliminate the possibility of hidden GMOs making their way into our products.

All herbs propagated and grown on Gaia Farm are Certified Organic and therefore are GMO-free. Our seeds, whether sourced from our farm or a trusted supplier, are also GMO-free. We will always do everything possible to ensure that our products are non-GMO.

Do you test for Heavy Metals?

Yes. Gaia Herbs uses ICP-MS to test for arsenic, mercury, cadmium and lead. ICP-MS stands for Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry. This instrument is the centerpiece of Gaia’s heavy metals testing. This powerful technique is capable of observing a wide range of metal at quantities as low as a nanogram of metal in a gram sample. The ICP-MS allows Gaia to obtain precise and sensitive data for all materials in a high speed manner. The plasma vaporizes the sample and ultimately breaks it down to the atomic level. The mass spectrometer is then able to detect all atoms of interest.
